JKK Munirajah Medical Research Foundation college of physiotherapy, one of the pioneers in field of physiotherapy education was started in the year 1993 by Dr.JKK Munirajah, founder, Annai JKK Sampoorani Ammal Charitable Trust, initially offers the bachelor of physiotherapy degree course. Later in 1998 the post graduate Master of physiotherapy degree course was started in 3 specialties namely neurology, orthopaedics, cardio respiratory diseases. The college maintains the high standards in providing quality of physiotherapy education and college is recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu & Affiliated to the The Tamilnadu Dr MGR medical university, chennai. Recognized by the Indian association of physiotherapists.
Physiotherapy is a scientific approach to the prevention, diagnosis and therapeutic management of disorders of movement or optimization of function to enhance the health and welfare of the Community from an individual or Population Perspective. With the advent of the new millennium, technology is making rapid strides and pervading all spheres of life. Prosperity of nations directly depends on the achievements in the Medical Field.
The Physiotherapy degree is a four and a half year program including a six months of internship. The curriculum is based on the directives of the Tamil nadu Dr. MGR Medical University Chennai. Clinical exposure begins in the second year and classes are conducted by clinical specialists emphasizing the relevance of basic sciences to clinical practices. Hospital postings and field visits to public health centers aim at providing exposure to the students about different scenarios so that the best care is provided in all the circumstances. The college serves with the motto of care by providing education with up to date trends for the students and training them to the level of international standards in applying practical skills.
The practice of Physiotherapy encompasses a diversity of clinical specialties to meet the unique needs of different client groups. Physiotherapy services are used in a wide variety of areas such as health organizations, private practices, schools ,community, sports and work place settings.

Dr.D.Kannan, Professor cum Principal has completed his B.P.T (1997) in Government College of Physiotherapy under TN.Dr. MGR Medical University Chennai and M.Sc(psy)(2002) in Chennai University and M.P.T in Neurology(2005) in JKK Munirajah Medical Research Foundation College of Physiotherapy under TN Dr MGR Medical University Chennai and PhD in physiotherapy(2019) under Saveetha University Chennai. He is serving in the physiotherapy teaching profession for more than 20 years. He has national and international journal publications, presented posters and papers in conferences and reviewer of various journals and former faculty member of the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University chennai, examiner, evaluator and doctoral committee member in various universities. He has produced University first rank holders and gold medal students. He guided PhD, more than 50 M.P.T and 100 B.P.T projects. His students are holding higher positions in various hospitals, academic institutions, rehab centers, fitness & sports clubs all over the world. He organized various camps, seminars, workshops & conferences and received many awards from various universities, Associations and Government of Tamil Nadu

JKKMMRF college of Physiotherapy outpatient department has been serving the communities for over 25 years. we provide quality and professional care to all our patients and providing an integrated approach in the treatment with various specialties. We are committed to a high level of clinical expertise and patient satisfaction.
Neurophysiotherapy is a specialty that deals motor deficits arising from pathology in the nervous system. The people with neurological deficits can have a variety of problems. These include muscle stiffness, spasticity, weakness of muscle, tremor, problems with sensation, gait and balance impairments etc. These symptoms can lead to problems with everyday activities such as walking, getting dressed and feeding. Neurophysiotherapy aims to identify and maximize movement potential and quality of life. The treatment program may include education, training, posture awareness, strengthening, stretching, sitting balance, standing balance, and walking practice and address issues proactively to prevent long term problems from developing. Use of modalities like elctrotherapy & diagnostic equipments(EMG, NCV), exercise therapy equipments, massage therapy, neuro approaches, gait training may be recommended to enhance the movement and functional activities in the part of neurorehabilitation.
Orthopaedic physiotherapy is a specialty that deals with the movement of Joints, strengthening of muscles, coordinated movements of the limbs and the physical function aspects of the human body. Manual therapy is the advanced therapeutic technique applied to the patients with orthopaedic conditions. Treating variety of problems like shoulder pain, knee pain, heel pain, back pain, training after amputation, gait training after spinal injuries, fractures, ergonomic advices to the patients in home and work setting. Use of modalities like IFT, ultrasound, wax therapy, hydrocollator packs, vacuum therapy, laser therapy, etc. to reduce the pain and enhance the movement.
Cardio vascular & Pulmonary Physiotherapy Department provide General Chest evaluation, Cardiac fitness care, Cardio vascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and also playing a role in restoring function in patients requiring critical care by using conservative, non invasive approaches to return the patient for healthy life. This department provide physical assessments and rehabilitation therapy for patients who are admitted in Casualty & Emergency care unit , MICU., SICU., NICU., PICU., Surgery, medicine ward of the hospitals with life support equipments like Advanced Ventilator, Defibrillator, Electrocardiogram monitor, Arterial and Venous Lines, Pulse Oxymeter, Oxygen Transport, Monitoring of Fluids, Electrolyte balance, Suction Apparatus, Nebulizer.etc.,
The department is running 6 days in a week from Monday to Saturday. The department is attending approximately 20 -30 patients /day. Neuro faculty PROF. DR. D.Kannan PROF. DR. R.
